Based in Durham, England
Hello, I'm Marc. I'm an experienced UK workplace training and health & safety professional, based in Durham, England.
Over the years I've seen the same thing again and again: a small business takes on a new member of staff, everyone is busy, and the induction gets squeezed in between customers. The paperwork is pieced together from scattered guidance, safety training is done on the fly, and nobody is quite sure what's been covered. It isn't for want of caring. Bigger firms have HR departments for this, and most small businesses don't.
So I put together the induction kit I wished those businesses had. First Day Ready takes a new starter from “offer accepted” to “probation signed off”: what to sort out before they start, what to cover on day one, a plan for the first week and the first 90 days, a fair probation review, and a proper checklist for when someone leaves. There are sector packs for hospitality, retail, care, construction and offices, an employee handbook starter and a tracker that works in Excel or Google Sheets.
Everything is written in plain English for UK employers, checked against official guidance from GOV.UK, Acas and the HSE, and links to those sources so you can check the current position. It's practical guidance and templates, not legal advice. Every template is editable in Word or Google Docs, with space for your own logo and company name, so it looks like it came from your business, because it did.
You can buy the full kit or just the single template you need. If something isn't clear, or there's a template you'd like to see, send me a message through Etsy or email me.
Developed with an experienced UK workplace training and health & safety professional, and checked against official UK guidance. Created using modern design tools.
Your files are ready as soon as your payment is confirmed.
Downloading on a computer is easiest. Phones and tablets can download the files, but unzipping and editing Word files is much easier on a computer.
If you have any trouble, send me a message through Etsy and I'll help.
The templates are Microsoft Word files (.docx). The full kit also includes an Excel spreadsheet (.xlsx) for the induction tracker and PDF guides; single templates come with a one-page Quick Start PDF.
Nothing physical is posted: these are digital downloads only.
No. The kit and templates are practical guidance and templates for small employers, not legal advice. They were checked against official UK guidance (GOV.UK, Acas, HSE, ICO and others) as at September 2026, and they link to those sources so you can check the current position, because employment law and guidance change. The kit doesn't include an employment contract, and the handbook starter is a structure for you to fill in, not a finished set of policies.
For anything unusual, such as a dismissal, a dispute or a complicated contract, contact Acas or a qualified adviser.
The templates are written for employers in Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales), where most employment and health and safety rules are the same. Where things differ, the kit says so. For example:
If you're not sure whether something applies where you are, check the official source linked in the template.
Yes, that's what they're designed for. Every Word template has a "YOUR LOGO" box in the header and a [Company Name] field.
Step-by-step "brand it in 2 minutes" instructions are in the Quick Start included with every download.
Because these are digital files, I can't accept returns, exchanges or cancellations once the files have been downloaded.
If a file is faulty, won't open or isn't what the listing describes, please send me a message through Etsy. I'll send you a working replacement, or give you a refund if I can't put it right.
This doesn't affect your statutory rights.
Your purchase gives you a licence to use and adapt the templates within your own business, including across more than one site. Managers and colleagues in your business can use the copies you've branded, for example to induct new starters.
Please don't:
If you're an HR consultant, accountant or adviser and want to use them with clients, please message me first.
Each template shows when it was checked against official guidance (currently September 2026), and the files link to the official sources so you can check the current position. Because law changes, always check the linked sources before relying on a date or rule.
I don't currently write custom documents or give advice on individual situations. But if there's a template you'd find useful that isn't in the shop, or a sector you'd like a pack for, send me a message through Etsy. Suggestions really do help me decide what to add next.
Email me and I'll reply as soon as I can. For help with an order, you can also message me through Etsy.
I can't give advice on individual employment situations. For that, contact Acas or a qualified adviser.
